Corporate Social Responsibility
The Role of the Community
As a family business, we believe the community plays a very important role in the growth of the company. We are keen on preserving our land, local traditions and national heritage, as well as developing our people, always trying to inspire the future generation.
We create job opportunities for the nearby villages and use the local farmers for fresh organic products. We are committed to the environment and always look for better sustainable practices.
Asconi Winery has become an important landmark in Puhoi village and the locals are proud of it, yet there is so much more to discover here.
Eco-friendly Initiatives
The Asconi Winery accommodation consists of 12 traditional cottages made out of a mixture of clay and hay, with handcrafted thatched reed roofs. This allows the houses to be cool in the summers and warm during winters, thus decreasing the use of A/C.
In addition to that we have invested in Geothermal energy pumps throughout the area of the cottages and the pool. Geothermal energy is the thermal energy generated and stored in the Earth, which means that it is cost-effective, reliable, sustainable, and environmentally friendly. Some other advantages of geothermal energy is that it is simple and reliable, not like solar or wind energy and that it has the smallest land footprint of any other power source. By using geothermal sources of energy, present generations of humans will not endanger the capability of future generations to use their own resources to the same amount that those energy sources are presently used.
With water shortages plaguing the world, water scarcity has become one of the largest threats facing society today, thus from the very beginning it was imperative for us to build a wastewater treatment system. The water treatment process does not only produce clean reusable water, but also has the potential to produce various other benefits, such as: rids potential diseases, low cost, minimal odour emission, and many other.
As a production factory, it is imperative we have a solid plan for recycling all the waste accordingly. Thus we have partnered with companies that take used items back, like for example broken or used bottles go back to the glass factory; or companies that reuse/recycle, in that case being all plastic waste and paper. As for the food waste, most of it goes to the cuddly puppies and kittens around the winery, or the chicken that not only gives us an extra rustic vibe, but also organic eggs. In addition to that we also always encourage our visitors and associates to recycle, by having different bins for each type of waste.
To provide safe and reliable products for our customers, we acquired the Foundation Food Safety System Certification 22000 (FSSC) and have established a hygiene management system. We also manage and are constantly improving the hygiene management system to strive to supply pure, high-quality, uncontaminated products.
Community Service
Social responsibility means more than caring about the environment. It’s about caring for people and communities too, both Puhoi village where the winery is located and Geamăna village where the vineyards are.
More than 75% of employees at the winery, either at the factory or the vineyards, are villages’ residents.
We provide a pleasant work environment, onsite accommodation for those who need it, and sufficiently transparent information regarding career opportunities and hierarchies, as well as growth potential.
Because we care, together with the people from Puhoi village, we annually clean the roads leading to the village.
It is important to give back and support, thus whenever we can we donate wine and food to people and organizations in need.
Future Vision and Projects
Educational Farm
Being in the service industry since 2015, we have noticed the demand for fresh farm goods and the efficiency they bring. Not only is it cost-effective to have locally sourced veggies, dairy products and meat, but it also makes a difference in flavor and taste overall.
In addition to that, urbanization has created a demand for active experiences out in the countryside, thus our idea of an educational farm was born.
An educational farm it’s not just a simple farm with its day to day work, but also carries out active and relaxing educational activities for different groups of people. The idea is to promote and organize educational days of its agricultural activities, dedicated to teaching traditional practices such as cheese production, animal husbandry, beekeeping and many more.
Pet Hotel
Our love for nature and animals doesn’t stop here. As our Guest House became pet friendly early 2021, we decided to take the idea to the next level and create a special space for guests’ special furry friends – Pet Hotel.
The hotel will cater to all types of cats and dogs in different shapes and sizes.
Heritage Museum
As an appreciation for the people and the land, we want to give back as much as we can, therefore are currently working on rediscovering and preserving the village’s heritage. The goal is to gather enough memorabilia in order to open a museum on the premises of the winery. The museum would showcase the history of winemaking on the land, dating since 600 a.c. and of the royalty that used to once live here and the history in the early 1200 a.c.
